Update, March 2008. You're not going to believe this is the same girl! We're pleased to report that Buttercup is doing well. She now lives with Jan and Ray as a "forever foster."  They tell us that she has gained weight and has become a happy member of their pack.

The photos below are from March 2008. Just compare this with how she looked six months before - the difference is amazing!

Update, September 2007. She has been staying with Dr. Tim and Kerri in Tawas, MI. They are calling her Buttercup. She is just the sweetest thing. She loves everyone and everything, especially things that are soft!! She loves to lie in soft places.

Sadly, her condition wasn't caused by lack of food alone. Buttercup was obviously hit by a car some time ago. Then she probably ran into the woods where she was eventually found. Who knows how long she suffered there, alone, in pain and frightened. We know all of this because when Dr. Tim first examined her, he listened to her chest with his stethoscope, and he was shocked to hear bowel sounds coming from inside her chest! He discovered that her diaphragm had been badly injured leading to it decomposing over time. That allowed all her abdominal organs to move up into her chest.

Very shocking is the fact that she doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort! She wags her tail all the time. She's a Happy Girl! She does get out of breath easily if she gets too active because there's not much room for her lungs to expand.

Even though her condition is obviously terminal, we have chosen (along with the doctor's input) NOT to euthanize this girl. We looked for an angel to take her in and let her enjoy whatever time she has left....months to possibly a year??

And we found that angel in Ray Anderson. He has agreed to take her and love her and spoil her rotten until she tells him "it's time". We want to thank Ray and the people who have sent donations in her honor. This dog is certainly one tough cookie! She never gave up, so we're not giving up on her. We are SO thankful someone found her in the woods and cared enough about her to get her in our hands. Buttercup has actually gained a couple pounds!! (after being treated for the Whipworms she had).

You Go Buttercup!! What a determined hound!! She's absolutely amazing.

The photos below are from late August, 2007.

August 2007. This poor girl was found wandering in the woods, thin as a rail and a huge lump on her side. We've got her in very capable hands right now and we're hoping she makes it.

We think she's about six years old and EXTREMELY sweet! Amazingly enough, she wags her tail and just loves people!!

We will post progress reports and photos as time goes on, but we need everyone's prayers for her!! We'll also post her name as soon as she tells us what it is!
